How many lights will I need?

 

Please Note, Our lighting produces exceedingly bright white light, and is far brighter than LEDs or PAR Cans!

If you calculate that a package is suitable for your production and you want to use very dark colours for a theatre production then you may need the next package.

As a guide, the number of lamps needed to light a stage is roughly one of our lamps per square metre, when shining from a distance up to ten metres (33 feet) Distance away is dependant of lantern type.

The standard CCT Minutte is bright, but ours have all been re-engineered with additional lenses, and a new super efficient bulb type. We have chosen to do this as it makes our lights both compact and very efficient. Ideal for a mobile service!

All of our standard lighting packages use modified Minuettes from CCT.

Most of our lamps in the Packages use efficient 300-watt bulbs and have extra lenses give the equivalent to 500-watts of traditional halogen light each, and up to ten lamps can be run from a single 13 amp plug! - A number of our Profile Spots have also been fitted 575-watt Source 4 lamps

What type of lights do I need?

Fresnel. Invented by Jean Fresnel a French mathematician, a lens with a stepped surface, and bobbled back. These lights are for short throw uses (less then 20 feet) and produce an even soft edged round beam of light that can be adjusted between 18 - 57 degrees. Usually found across the front, or above stage pointing down.

Pebble Convex. Similar in performance to the Fresnel and pioneered by CCT. It was developed to overcome the problem of filament striation at the narrow beam angles, adjustable between 10 - 59 degrees. Intended for slightly longer throw (less then 25 feet). Sometimes used to light the stage from the side.

Profile Spots. Inside, there is one or two lenses that focus on to a gate (round hole) in the lamp-house to project a clear cut even beam of any profile, with soft or sharp edges. Beam angles are adjustable between 17 – 48 degrees depending on the lamp model and are for medium throw (20 – 40 feet). Ideal for producing spots of light (coloured or white), and / or lighting a stage from a distance. Follow Spots are just very narrow Profiles!

Flood Lights.  Are ideal for the efficient lighting of vertical surfaces such as Scenery and Backcloths, Most use bulbs of the same type found in garden or outside lighting.
